This was the image Adbusters used to promote Occupy Wall Street.|
This is the image they used when deciding to speak for the entire movement about Chicago.
"Enough of this new fuzzy movement building shit, it's time for riot nostalgia! TURN IT UP, DUDE!"
It's important to note it originally said "The Chicago Seven" until someone pointed out they had erased Bobby Seale. Yeah, you really understand history, douchebags.
Adbusters may have coined the term, but they don't own what came next and this spotlight hogging is weak.
How many people do they think can take a month off to engage in activist tourism with a high risk of violence. Way to speak to the 99%.
Also, it's nice you decided the entire Occupy movement should be explicitly associated with potential G8 Violence AND Chicago 68. Usually one has to wait for Fox News to make such connections. I'm sure the rest of the movement is really glad you chose to offer such links on their behalf. Maybe you could work in the Days of Rage and the Symbionese Liberation Army as well.

This really pisses me off. Occupy Chicago has been trying to ensure that any G8 problems don't derail the entire movement and then these Canadian theorists do this. They don't even understand the full meaning and details of Chicago 68 and how it was kind of a setback and had a lot of ugly aftereffects. This is 2012 not 1968. How about we think about that?

Yeah, it's like, they were the epitome of useless, toothless "culture jamming" for years. Now that their iconography is getting seen a little in a context where it might matter, it's ghastly.
Adbusters is irresponsible and stupid. I'm still pissed off at them for ripping off one of my designs back in the day. I don't think they've ever encountered a movement they didn't try to co-opt.
In their defense, they were a key part of launching the occupy wall street concept.
Even they admit, however, they had little to do with what happened next.
Despite all their avowed humility, I think Adbusters sees Occupy as their brand. And they decided the peasants were being too slow to launch the G8 product line and it wouldn't be edgy enough, so they took over.
It's so privileged and full of that macho lefty posturing, it's like some energy drink decided to sponsor ADBUSTERS EXXTREME OCCUPY FESTIVAL.
Antioch College didn't have any sports teams per se, we used to say that protesting was our big competitive sport, and we were Big Ten where that was concerned.
These jerks seem to want to play it like Xtreme Sports - Fear Factor meets Jackass meets setting police cars on fire when your team wins AND when they lose.
